Ice-hockey
The Pardubice gingerbread is also closely connected with another local phenomenon – ice hockey. Every fan of the local club has to have a package with gingerbread with them, so that they can throw them on the ice after Pardubice players score a victorious win. This ritual has been traditional for just the past few seasons. The historical first game was played on the present day Matiční Lake in 1913, in 1947 the first winter stadium was opened and the Pardubice team has been playing non-stop in the highest Czechoslovakian or Czech league since 1949. Whether the club played under the name Slavia, Dynamo, Tesla or HC Moeller at present, it has always had a great number of loyal fans, who had the opportunity to celebrate the title of national champions four times in history. The last time was in 2005, when the sold-out ČEZ Arena, which after extensive reconstruction is a super dignified home for Pardubice’s hockey players, brought Moeller to victory in the final extra league series against Hamé Zlín. The atmosphere of the matches in Pardubice is the best in the country, so don’t hesitate and come and cheer!
